The Best Recruitment Stories Don’t Always Start Out Perfectly

As told to the Ivy Edit Team

Sisters throwing confetti in celebration

If your recruitment week isn’t going to plan, breathe. Some of our most devoted sisters started with dropped invitations, wrong turns and ugly cries. Their stories:

Elena: cut everywhere, then home

“After round two I was invited back to one chapter. One. I called my mom ready to quit. She said, ‘give the one a chance.’ That ‘one’ turned out to be the room where I laughed hardest all week. I’m chapter president now. One was plenty.”

Grace: the sophomore who almost didn’t

“I skipped recruitment freshman year because I was sure I’d missed my window. Sophomore fall, my roommate dragged me to an open house. Joining ‘late’ was the best accident of my college life — I found mentors in my own pledge class.”

“Recruitment isn’t an audition. It’s a matching process — and matches take a minute to find each other.”

Tessa: the legacy who chose differently

“Everyone assumed I’d follow my mom’s chapter. On preference night I realized my heart was somewhere else entirely — and my mom, bless her, said ‘then that’s where you belong.’ She cheered loudest on my Bid Day.”

What their stories share

None of them trusted the process at the time. All of them are glad they stayed in the room. If this week feels wobbly, keep showing up as yourself — your sisters are looking for exactly that.
